When most of us think of GPS tracking watches one of two images pop into our mind. The first is that of a child locator that fits on the wrist of child. The second is that of a watch on the arm of an athlete (usually a long distance runner). Both of these watches are essentially the same, but used in very different ways.

The first watch is used almost entirely to track and keep tabs on a child. A concerned parent will outfit their child with a GPS tracking watch just in case the worst were to happen to their child. They feel that it gives them the peace of mind that they need to send their child off to school, or to the park, or to the mall. They often feel that this locating device is exactly what they will want if an abduction or kidnapping were to occur.

Normally watches like this help the parent take back some power that they felt has been stolen from them in our society of parental isolation. They cannot trust their neighbors to keep an eye on their children with them because we are so distanced from those that live around us, especially in suburbia. At a mall with a thousand people in it, your child could become entirely lost and could not see a single familiar face. People might walk by your child without even know that they are lost or in need of assistance.

A child locator watch is exactly what parents need …

GPS Vehicle Fleet Tracking is no longer just for large corporations. Businesses with fleets as small as 5 vehicles are using GPS vehicle fleet tracking and are getting their return on investment in a short period of time ad the technology changes are making it more affordable for more businesses.

Global Positioning Systems (GPS) use a network of satellites beaming time-stamped signals to receivers on the surface of the Earth. By measuring the delay between when the signal was sent and when it arrived from three different satellites, you can isolate the coordinates of any receiver on the surface of the earth, with a precision that goes down to inches for military receivers, and about two years for commonly available civilian gear.

GPS equipment has become more and more common as cell phone technology has made it more portable and easier to use. There are many benefits to equip your fleets with GPS tracking technology.

Firstly, GPS equipment, and the monitoring software for it, allows you to have precise locations of delivery vehicles. This makes it possible to route technicians and repairmen and delivery personnel more efficiently, and to let customers know, nearly in real time, about any potential delays in routing or delivery.

Second, because of more accurate data gathered on the movements of vehicles in your fleet, you have better control over mileage, proactive maintenance, and fuel economy. It’s a lot easier to keep track of fuel economy when you can factor in idle times.

In similar vein, you now have an accurate record of where every vehicle in …

We learn about the nature and scope of regular GPS systems and how the latest Microsoft GPS programs have improved upon this concept for vehicle tracking beyond the earliest felt need of the US Defense Military services – for which they were first developed.
The nature of the GPS device, or the Global Positioning Satellite as it is actually called, is that it is a very advanced navigation system based on satellite communication made possible for the US Defense Military, thereafter the US public and other citizens of the world once it was recognized as being useful for public use. A GPS system was initially used by the general public for their vehicle tracking, which also acted as an anti-theft protection device and car-owners ended up saving a lot on auto insurance if their vehicles were equipped with GPS systems, too – most insurance companies gave discounted premiums for this feature in automobiles insured with them – such was the popularity of the GPS system.
The GPS system is actually a small box installed either on the dashboard or under the carriage of a vehicle, which works as a navigational aid for the driver, giving him directions to the destination point; it also helps a car owner locate a vehicle that has been loaned, borrowed without intimation by a family member or parked in a place they’ve overlooked in their search.
Thus, the utility of the standard GPS system is tremendous for car owners and long-distance travelers in a rented car even; the advanced software used in the latest GPS systems has the …

Buying a Global Positioning System (GPS) to meet your needs may not be as simple as one might think. There are a myriad of different devices, for many different purposes.

The first thing to consider when buying a GPS device is its primary use. Will you be using it on the road, on the trail, or on the water?

On the road devices are usually temporary mounted in the vehicle with suction cups or bean bags. Most of these devices have turn-by-turn instructions and auto correction if you miss a turn.

We recommend getting a device with the auto-correction feature, that way you don’t have to mess with the device if you take a wrong turn, it will recalculate the route for you automatically.

There are some devices that are also portable, so you can unplug them from your vehicle and take them with you as you walk around in a large city.

My favorite in this category is the Garmin c330, c340, and c530 series. They are a wonderful size for using it in the vehicle and small enough to use as a portable. They have city maps pre-loaded, so they are not much use off-road.

Many of the newest designs have built in picture viewers, MP3 players, traffic updates (careful, that usually costs extra!!), and many other bells and whistles.

One of the best features of the Garmin c-series line is the ability to ask for the closest landmarks, such as food, gas, shopping, golf courses, etc.

Like anything …
