Buying a Global Positioning System (GPS) to meet your needs may not be as simple as one might think. There are a myriad of different devices, for many different purposes.
The first thing to consider when buying a GPS device is its primary use. Will you be using it on the road, on the trail, or on the water?
On the road devices are usually temporary mounted in the vehicle with suction cups or bean bags. Most of these devices have turn-by-turn instructions and auto correction if you miss a turn.
We recommend getting a device with the auto-correction feature, that way you don’t have to mess with the device if you take a wrong turn, it will recalculate the route for you automatically.
There are some devices that are also portable, so you can unplug them from your vehicle and take them with you as you walk around in a large city.
My favorite in this category is the Garmin c330, c340, and c530 series. They are a wonderful size for using it in the vehicle and small enough to use as a portable. They have city maps pre-loaded, so they are not much use off-road.
Many of the newest designs have built in picture viewers, MP3 players, traffic updates (careful, that usually costs extra!!), and many other bells and whistles.
One of the best features of the Garmin c-series line is the ability to ask for the closest landmarks, such as food, gas, shopping, golf courses, etc.

GPS is one of the best technical advancements made for the common man. Global Positioning System (GPS) is actually based on the concept of ‘Trilateration’ and is mainly used for tracking and navigation purposes. They can also be used with communication technologies like telephony and radio transmission along with regular tracking and navigation services.
GPS tracking has a GPS receiver, GPS software and a device to transmit the coordinates. GPS Navigation helps people to locate a place on the map. It is very useful for locating a unit, finding a route from one place to another or even while selecting the best suitable route in real time. GPS navigation requires portable computers and gadget along with the use of GPS systems.
Popular brands that are currently in use are Garmin GPS and Magellan GPS. Garmin GPS has a sleek and slim design that fits into a pocket or purse. Garmin offers nuvi 200 series car GPS navigators with regional coverage for Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Brazil. It is also available in both 2D and 3D perspective views.
The Magellan GPS includes built-in tour book travel information, giving instant access to service details and diamond ratings from world’s leading travel experts. It has amazing accuracy for re-calculating route speed and booting speed.
The best way to choose a budget GPS is by checking out online GPS reviews. Online reviews contain useful information on usage, installation, latest pricing and shipping details.

If you’re looking for the right Magellan GPS text to speech vehicle GPS navigator, then you’re in luck! You’ve got several models to choose from in both Magellan’s Maestro and RoadMate series.
Actually, by far most of Magellan’s portable GPS navigators have test to speech, which means they say the name of the street you’re to turn on, instead of just saying, “Turn right, here.” Unlike Garmin, however, not all of Magellan’s devices have text to speech.
All but two of the vehicle GPS navigators in Garmin’s nuvi line have text to speech, whereas there are still a few navigators in Magellan’s two lines that don’t have text to speech. So, you’ll definitely want to make sure the actual model you buy comes with text to speech.
Magellan’s GPS’s are broken up into two lines, the Maestros and the RoadMates. Both are great devices and both have access to the Triple A Tour Book, if you’re a subscriber. (That’s a great proprietary feature that only Magellan offers.)
The Maestro line is further divided into the 4000 and the 3000 series. The only big difference between the two is the 4000 series have the larger, wide screens, whereas the 3000 models have the normal, 3.5-inch screen. Any model in the maestro line with a number greater than 4220 or 3220 will be a Magellan GPS text to speech device. The lower numbered models don’t all have text to speech.
Most of the RoadMates have text to speech.
Right now, you can get a Magellan GPS text to speech vehicle navigator for around $150.
Honestly, Garmin and TomTom both …
