If you are an outdoor enthusiast who wants to take advantage of the power of the Global Positioning System the Magellan GPS 315 may be just what you are looking for. This is a compact hand-held unit that is designed to meet the demands of outdoor adventures while keeping track of where you are, where you’ve been, and where you want to go.
The GPS 315 is designed exclusively for use in the great outdoors and is not designed for nor will it function as a vehicle navigation device. It does not display roadmaps and does not include any of the features found on a typical in-car GPS unit.
But it is a powerful GPS system that easily fits into your pocket. It has the coordinates for over 11,000 cities in the U.S. built into its internal database. This little unit will keep track of your position to within 15 meters or less while storing 20 routes and 500 waypoints that you designate. It will also leave a trail of “bread-crumbs” so you can easily find your way back while keeping track of how far you have traveled with its internal trip-odometer.
Two AA batteries will run the 315 for up to twelve hours at a go. It also has a backlight feature that lets you use it in the dark but be aware that this feature tends to drain the batteries at a rather fast rate.
